In an era where mental disorders proliferate…a warning becomes more urgent than ever. Reacting to this effect, the Moroccan democratic human rights body (IDMDH) in the province of Berrechid calls for the persistent absence of medical staff at the Errazi Hospital for mental illnesses.
Many mentally ill people have found refuge on the streets of cities, a worrying situation for citizens and local authorities. Recently, the IMDDH pointed out an uncontrolled proliferation of people with mental disorders on public streets, which represents a clear threat to the safety of citizens.
This concern does not arise by chance; recently, a tragic incident disrupted the tranquility of Berrechid: the attack on a student by a person suffering from mental disorders. This time, this offensive caused a deep wound in the head and a fracture in the victim’s arm. Shocked by this situation which continues to deteriorate, the IMDDH holds the Ministry of Health fully responsible for this incident and the safety of patients and citizens, and firmly denounces the ministry’s contempt for this matter. sensitive despite the numerous parliamentary questions already raised in this regard.
Likewise, the body also rejects the policy of flooding the town of Berrechid and surrounding communities with people suffering from mental disorders without providing the necessary resources to the Errazi Hospital, which suffers from an acute lack of medicines and personnel. medical, and which has only one doctor responsible for both management and treatment.
As a result, the IMDDH in the province of Berrechid demands urgent compensation for the student injured following the aforementioned attack. In addition, the said body requests the opening of a serious investigation by the Ministry of the Interior to determine those responsible for the flooding of the city and neighboring communities with people suffering from mental disorders.
In order to put an end to these incidents, the same authority demands the issuance of a binding ministerial note to the Director of Errazi Hospital in order to guarantee the reception of all people in distress, whether they are accompanied by the authorities , civil society or patients’ relatives, and to ensure the necessary care.
She thus calls for the urgent supply of medical personnel and medicines in order to restore the proper functioning of the hospital and guarantee adequate health care.
Not only that, the IMDDH urges the Ministry of Justice to take care of the suffering of citizens and the rights of patients, and the establishment of suitable accommodation for people suffering from mental disorders, in order to preserve their dignity and their safety.
