This Wednesday afternoon: the arrival of snow

This afternoon, a disturbance will quickly reach Belgium from the south. The first precipitation associated with this will be in the form of slush but, as it increases in intensity, it will turn into snow. Snowfall (melting) will also affect the center of the country at the end of the day, and the far northeast only in the evening.

Then, milder air will rise towards our regions and precipitation will then be in the form of rain in the extreme south of the territory.

The maxima will be between 0 or 1 degree in Ardennes and 3 or 4 degrees in Lower and Middle Belgium, under a weak to moderate wind, initially from the south, then gradually returning to the east to south-east sector.

A yellow alert for slippery conditions was in effect until 4 p.m. across the country, except on the Coast. This alert was even orange for the province of Liège.

This Wednesday evening: heavy rain

This evening and night, the IRM forecasts (slush) snow in Lower and Middle Belgium, while mild air will gain ground in the south; in the regions located south of the Sambre-et-Meuse furrow, and more particularly in the province of Luxembourg, precipitation will then take the form of rain and will even be abundant. Freezing rain will also be possible, especially on the terrain.

The minima will be close to, or slightly below 0 degrees in the central part of the territory; they will be around +2 or +3 degrees at the coast, and around +8 degrees in Belgian Lorraine.

The wind will be weak to moderate, initially from the east to southeast sector, before returning to the northeast sector in Lower and Middle Belgium and turning to the southwest sector in Upper Belgium.

Thursday morning: further snowfall

Thursday morning, the area of snow will move from the west and north towards the center of the country and will then join the south of the Sambre-et-Meuse furrow where the rains of the night will therefore be replaced by new snowfall. During the afternoon, sometimes large clearings will return to the west and north of the country, but we will also have to deal with some winter showers. This area of snow will finally leave our country to the south-east during the afternoon, with a few snow showers still possible in upper Belgium.

The maxima will vary between +8 degrees in Gaume (in the morning), +6 degrees by the sea and -2 degrees in the Hautes Fagnes. The wind will be weak to moderate, moderate in the Ardennes and on the coast, from west to northwest.
