DJI wants to follow in the footsteps of Bosch. With the Amflox PL, launched this January 7 in France, the manufacturer of drones, cameras and microphones for vloglaunches its first electrically assisted bicycle (VAE). Available in two versions, the one that some describe as an exceptional racing beast has an impressive technical sheet… and a selling price that is just as impressive!
An extraordinary technical sheet
It was the announcement (which no one saw coming!) of the Eurobike show, in July 2024, in Frankfurt. Known worldwide for its drones, DJI announced without warning its arrival in the world of electrically assisted bicycles with a brand, Amflow, and a platform, Avinox (motor, battery, console, application).
The first Amflow VAEs are now available in France: the Amflow PL Carbon and Amflow PL Carbon Pro. Behind their hyper-light frame (2.27 kg) respectively “satin silver” and “cosmic black”, these exceptional VTTAE (electrically assisted mountain bikes) reveal a technical sheet that stands out in the world of the Little Queen.
A couple that defies the odds
Starting with a central motorization (Avinox Drive System) integrated into the frame, discreet and light (2.52 kg). This drive unit displays an impressive torque: 105 N m (Newton meter), and up to 120 N m for 30 seconds in mode Boost. Enough to climb the steepest hills… with an assistance power of 800 W (2.87 kg).
This engine also has an adaptive Auto mode which alone modulates, by analyzing the pedaling resistance, the level of assistance of the bike according to the condition of the road. But the mount retains its 12-speed rear derailleur, in addition to the four assistance modes offered.
Less than 20 kg per frame
Associated with this engine is a battery with an impressive capacity of 800 Wh which can be recharged to 75% in just 90 minutes. With 800 Wh, it is reasonable to imagine that the autonomy of the Amflow PL could be close to 200 km, depending on the use made of it.
There remains a control console with a 2-inch (5.08 cm) OLED touch screen integrated into the frame, coupled with an application using which it is possible to activate an alarm in the event of unwanted movement or theft of the bike.
Our video test of the latest DJI drone
With a global weight we can no longer light (19.2 kg), the Amflow PL is obviously not an electric bike for commuters but seems perfectly designed for very demanding athletes. If it is scary, its price also reflects its technical level: respectively 6,499 euros (Amflow PL Carbon) and 9,999 euros (Amflow PL Carbon Pro), prices which correspond to those of very high-end frames in this category, such as the Scott Patron ST 900 Tuned (10,999 euros) or the Commençal Meta Power SX 400 (sold between 6,000 and 8,200 euros).
We imagine that DJI and its subsidiary Amflow have decided to attack this new market “from the top” before declining their offer with slightly more democratic bikes, and in particular classic VAEs. It is still unknown whether the manufacturer, in addition to its own range of e-MTBs, also intends to position itself as an equipment manufacturer and offer its Avivox platforms to other manufacturers.
