A 32-year-old man appeared this Monday, December 9 before the criminal court of La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée). He was on trial for having seriously burned the son of his former partner with a chemical product. The facts took place in November 2021, reports West France. The little boy, then aged 30 months, had been injured in his private parts and had undergone several skin grafts.
The defendant maintained during the hearing that it was an accident. The child would have moved into another room under construction when he had left to go to the toilet. This is where he allegedly burned himself while handling pickling acid.

But, after examining the victim, the forensic doctor for his part mentioned prolonged contact, incompatible with an accident. Two other forensic doctors even concluded that a third adult was involved after having had access to photos, indicates the regional daily.
“The defendant put soda in the diaper, that’s most likely”declared the victim's lawyer. The public prosecutor requested five years in prison for the defendant, including one year suspended for three years. The court is expected to issue its decision on January 13, 2025.
