Daniel Fiévet to discover from Wednesday January 8, 2025 on the Radio application and franceinter.fr

In the “Shipwrecked – A True Story” collection, which has had nearly 5 million downloads since its launch, Daniel Fiévet offers 4 new episodes to continue to bring to life the stories of survivors who have marked the history of navigation.

These stories, based on the testimonies of survivors, took place in several eras and at different latitudes. They question human nature by showing how far women and men are capable of going when faced with extreme situations. Some behave like heroes while others give free rein to their baser instincts.

Episodes 1 and 2

The descent into hell of the Wager sailors

In 1741, the Wager, a British crown ship engaged in the colonial war between England and Spain, disappeared off the coast of Chile. Just when everyone thinks the crew is lost forever, two groups of survivors reappear several months apart. They did not take the same path to return to civilization. They say that after the shipwreck, nearly 150 survivors were stranded on a piece of desolate land. Over the weeks, the dead piled up and rival clans formed. But the stories differ…. What really happened on this desert island?

USS Indianapolis, le long supplice

In July 1945, as World War II was coming to an end, the USS Indianapolis, an American military ship carrying nearly 1,200 men, was hit head-on by two torpedoes fired by a Japanese submarine in the Pacific. The ship sank, throwing nearly 900 men into the sea in the middle of the night. The lucky ones are on rafts. For them it is the beginning of a long torture. For 4 days and 4 nights, these sailors in distress will face hunger, thirst, sharks, but also the madness of their comrades prey to hallucinations. 317 of them survived this interminable ordeal which constituted one of the deadliest disasters in the history of the American Navy.

Four months adrift, as a couple, across the Pacific

Taking refuge on a tiny inflatable raft, they set adrift. They have almost nothing to drink, no fishing equipment and only food for a few days. However, they will survive, alone cut off from the world for 118 days. Four months during which they will demonstrate courage, resourcefulness and endurance of which they did not think they were capable.
