Former Rennais Yacouba Sylla returns to France after two and a half seasons outside France.
Passed by Botoșani then RE Virton in Romania and Belgium respectively after his departure from Bastia in the summer of 2022, Yacouba Sylla was free from any contract since July 1, 2023 officially. After a year and a half of inactivity, the 34-year-old defensive all-rounder is finally bouncing back.
Indeed, the former captain of the team Mali (34 selections, no longer called up since September 2017) has signed up with Châteauroux in National, the Berrichon club indicated Tuesday in a press release on its official website.
“La Berrichonne de Châteauroux is pleased to announce the signing of Yacouba Sylla. (…) With his knowledge of the very high level, the Malian international who played in the 2015 African Cup of Nations will bring all his expertise and experience to Cristiano Marques Gomes' group with the aim of winning maintenance at the end season and take La Berri' out of the red zone.”
“After a year and a half without playing, I have the fangs”
After 14 days, the Berrichons are last out of 17 teams with five points behind the first non-relegation Paris 13 Atletico. If his state of physical fitness can still be questioned, the former French Espoirs international does not lack motivation in any case. Both the idea of returning to the pitch and saving the Castelroussins from relegation. As entrusted to his new club:
“After a year and a half without playing, I'm fed up and I only have one goal in mind: to win promotion at the end of the season!”
Note that Châteauroux becomes the fifth club French of his career after previous stints at Clermont Foot, Rennes, Montpellier and Bastia.
