The repeat robber Rédoine Faïd was placed in police custody this Tuesday, January 7 due to his multiple escape plans, notably that of 2023 while he was incarcerated in Fleury-Mérogis (Essonne).

The repeat robber Rédoine Faïd was placed this Tuesday, January 7 in the morning in police custody in his prison in Vendin-le-Vieil, in Pas-de-, for several escape plans, BFMTV learned from a judicial source, confirming information from RTL.

He is notably questioned about the escape he planned in 2023 while he was incarcerated in Fleury-Mérogis (Essonne) awaiting his trial for his spectacular escape from Réau prison (Seine-et- ) in 2018.

Sentenced to prison until 2060

Rédoine Faïd, also known for his escape from Sequedin prison, has been incarcerated since 2018 in the Vendin-le-Vieil penitentiary, considered one of the most secure in . Last September, he requested a reduction in his conditions of detention, in particular an end to his placement in total isolation and the obligation to use a hygiaphone, a full window, for his visiting rooms. The Béthune sentencing chamber made the same request last November, considering that these conditions of detention were “contrary to the dignity of the human person”.

This request was rejected by the sentence enforcement chamber of the Court of Appeal at the beginning of December, reports Agence France-Presse.

Rédoine Faïd was sentenced to 14 years in prison in October 2023 for the escape from Réau prison and to 35 years for the escape from Sequedin prison in 2013 using explosives as well as for the failed Villiers robbery -sur-Marne, during which Aurélie Fouquet, municipal police officer, was killed. Rédoine Faïd should therefore remain incarcerated until 2060.
