The United States Postal Service (USPS) is once again accepting mail and packages destined for Canada starting Monday, following the end of service interruptions due to the month-long Canada Post strike.

The USPS made the announcement on its website.

“Canada Post has made significant progress in eliminating delays caused by the employee strike. Commercial and retail customers, as well as those using online systems, will once again be able to send mail and packages to Canada,” the agency wrote.

Canada Post said last month that Canadians should expect delays in the delivery of domestic packages in the new year. It said it was working through a backlog of international mail and packages and began accepting new international mail on Dec. 23.

More than 55,000 postal workers across the country have gone on strike over key issues such as the size of wage increases and concerns about Canada Post’s plans to expand weekend delivery.

Following a ministerial directive, the industrial tribunal ordered an end to the strike to give the union and the state-owned company “time out” as negotiations appeared to be deadlocked. Workers returned to work on December 17.

The labor commission is scheduled to hear challenges from the Postal Workers Union in mid-January.
