In a new video shared on the actor’s Instagram account, text in red, in a font inspired by the cult film, appears on the screen. “In 1997, the Wachowskis offered Will Smith the role of Neo in The Matrix. Smith refused. He chose “Wild Wild West,” thinking that film suited him better at the time. But the question remains: “What would ‘The Matrix’ have looked like with Will Smith as Neo? Wake up, Will… The Matrix has you…”, it is written in particular.
However, according to information from The Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith would not take part in the next opus. In a video posted on Youtube in 2019, the “Bad Boys” star explained the reasons for his refusal to star in the original film, stating: “After shooting “Men in Black”, the [sœurs] Wachowski came to see me. At the time, they had only made one film, “Bound,” I think. They pitched me for “The Matrix,” and it turned out they were geniuses! But there was a fine line between genius and what I experienced at the meeting.
