Who will head the Guyana Chamber of Agriculture? Elections are scheduled for January 15-30, digitally and by mail.

The lists of candidates were made official in a prefectural decree dated December 19. The Guyana Chamber of Agriculture will have a new president, as the incumbent, Albert Siong, is not running for re-election. In total, 23 seats are up for renewal in eight colleges.

Three lists compete in the two main colleges, those of farm managers of less than ten hectares, and those of more than ten hectares.

These three lists are that of GRAGE, the Regional Group of Farmers of Guyana; that of the alliance between Young Farmers and the FDSEA; and that of a newcomer, MODEF-FSAM, the Departmental Movement of Family Operators' Unions.

Among operators of less than ten hectares, Jean-Yves Tarcy, the first vice-president of the Chamber, leads the GRAGE list; Paul Yang, secretary of Young Farmers, leads the list of the Young Farmers alliance and the FDSEA; finally Laurietta Carolina, leader of MODEF, and farmer in Apatou, leads this third list.

Among farmers of more than ten hectares, Jean-Baptiste SIONG, farmer in Mana, is number one in GRAGE. Kevin Lau Txia Neng, operator at Cacao, is head of the list of the alliance between Young Farmers and the FDSEA. Finally, Kouroucien Jean Ringuet is head of the MODEF list, with Gabrielle Nicolas, formerly elected to the CTG, and Jean-Hubert François, former secretary of young farmers, in second and third position.

The electoral campaign will begin tomorrow, Tuesday January 7. Voting will take place from January 15 to 31, digitally and by mail. All agricultural employees are affected.
