The Academy is making progress in the loan of the winger who lost his bearings with Costas: his future seems to lie with a club in Brazil. Find out all the details here.
Racing is on the verge of losing its three Colombian players. Roger Martínez became a free agent after his contract expired and is heading to football in Saudi Arabia; Juan Fernando Quintero is in Colombia and is about to be sold to América de Cali; and now Johan Carbonero is the next to pack his bags.
Sources within the Academy have confirmed to Olé that negotiations are progressing for the winger’s one-year loan to Internacional de Porto Alegre, a club who have improved their initial offer and are close to securing the player’s services 25 years old.
Discussions between the clubs are progressing, and they are considering a loan amount of between $300,000 and $400,000, with a purchase option set at over $4,000,000 for the player’s rights, 75% of which was purchased by the Academy for $3,800,000, with the remainder held by Once Caldas of Colombia.

Pau López officially loaned by Olympique de Marseille to RC Lens until 2025
Inter had previously made an initial offer for the striker, which was described as “extremely insufficient” and rejected outright.
With a contract running until the end of 2026 and a release clause of €18,000,000 net, Carbonero was excited when this opportunity presented itself, as he knows he has lost significant ground in Costas’ plans and is aware that, at least at the start of the competition, he would start as a backup option.
Far from making positive progress, Carbonero started the year poorly by not showing up for the team’s return at the start of the pre-season. Recently, Monterrey of Mexico made a request for the Colombian, but it did not progress beyond this stage, leaving Inter in the lead.

What is América de Cali’s negotiating margin for Racing regarding Juanfer Quintero?
After tearing his ACL, the winger struggled to get back to his best form. He lost his ability to create imbalances in one-on-one situations and became a player with little influence in the game.
This season in 2024, he has played 37 matches in all competitions, starting 16 of them. Relegated by Maximiliano Salas and Santiago Solari, among others, in the last half of the year he played 23 matches, with only 11 as a starter, scoring only two goals.
Now, Racing hopes that he will gain more playing time in Brazil to revalue himself and return to better footballing form if the Porto Alegre club does not exercise the purchase option. Knowing that Costas would grant him freedom in this transfer window and that Agustín Urzi is no longer in the squad (his contract having expired and he was transferred to Huracán), the Academy is looking to recruit a winger for 2025 .
