From this Monday, April 6 and until Thursday, April 10, lanes of the A10 motorway upstream of the Saint-Arnoult-en- toll will be neutralized to complete the installation of a car charging system electrical.

Work begins on the A10 motorway upstream of the Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines toll gate this Monday, April 6 to install an experimental 1.5 kilometer electric car charging system. The project will last four months until April 10.

Coils emitting an electromagnetic field must be installed under the road surface, allowing cars equipped with receiving coils to recharge their batteries while driving, explains the motorway concessionaire Vinci, which developed this pilot device with the companies Electreon and Hutchinson. .

The prefectures of Yvelines and Essonne have therefore issued an order to modify traffic on this busy route to leave Île-de- during these 15 weeks of work.

Two lanes of the A10 in the -province direction will be neutralized for a few kilometers and part of the roadway will be tilted to allow trenches to be made, cables and electrical equipment to be installed, new coatings and new markings to be applied.

Traffic will be restored to four lanes during the winter holiday period.

Objective: reduce the size of electric batteries

In spring 2025, “rolling” with prototype cars will begin on this part of the motorway located in the town of Angervilliers on the border of Essonne and Yvelines. The ultimate goal of this test is to equip more roads to reduce the size and weight of the batteries used in electric vehicles today.

According to a study by the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) cited by AFP in July 2023 when the project was announced, these “electric roads” would reduce the autonomy necessary for normal use of vehicles by 62 to 71%. cars and therefore the size of their batteries.

This experiment on the A10 must last three years, during which the resurfacing section will reach four kilometers and cost 26 million euros. It benefits from financial support from the Public Investment Bank as part of its France 2030 plan.
