Commitment to a sustainable Senegal through “Setal sunu Reew”

The 8th edition of the national day “Setal sunu Reew” took place under the effective presidency of the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, at the Comico city, located in Yeumbeul North. This event was marked by the presence of the Defense and Security Forces, who actively participated in this initiative in favor of a healthier living environment, in collaboration with the citizens on site.

Chaired by Bassirou Diomaye Faye, this day of citizen mobilization coincided with the start of the new year and carried the theme “Setal sa gokh, aar sa yaram”: a call for the commitment of the armed forces alongside citizens. The president warmly thanked the national army for its commitment, stressing that this initiative, an integral part of the “Army-Nation” concept, contributes not only to a clean Senegal, but also involves social actions such as blood donation and support in the areas of education and health.

The Minister of the Armed Forces, General Birame Diop, and other state, administrative and local authorities as well as the populations of Yeumbeul also participated in this event. In his speech, Bassirou Diomaye Faye urged the population to continue this altruistic practice. He insisted that “health begins first with good environmental management”. According to him, healthy environment is essential for healthy living.

By emphasizing the importance of perpetuating this activity beyond his mandate, the president appealed for continuity. He hopes that this beautification and cleaning initiative will be perpetuated in the Senegalese DNA, encouraging every citizen to preserve the environment. In addition, Bassirou Diomaye Faye encourages the massive involvement of Senegalese people in the national competition aimed at rewarding the cleanest neighborhoods, an idea which promotes sustainable practices for a more pleasant Senegal to live in. As our colleagues from Sud Quotidien reported, this is a very clear desire to promote sustainability for the well-being of the country.
