The cathedral explained to children

Eight children and seven adults were there on Thursday morning during a “special children’s” visit offered by the cathedral’s reception and visits service.

Véronique Des Boscs, a volunteer guide, led the group into the building and then into the crypt for a child-friendly visit.

With an interactive and fun approach, the guide presented the cathedral, its history, its stained glass windows and its architecture. “The cathedral was built around 1194, it has 2,600 m ² stained glass windows, 80% of which date from the Middle Ages. Its stained glass windows are a kind of comic strip that explains the Christian faith. This cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, since we say Notre-Dame. »

Véronique Des Boscs continues: “Here we have a fabric considered to be part of the veil of the Virgin Mary, offered by Charles the Bald. Marian worship dates from the creation, what is called the lower church, that is to say the crypt, which is located under this same cathedral. It was built around 1025 by Fulbert, bishop of at the time. It is for this reason that we are currently celebrating the millennium of the crypt. »
