MP Mbaye Dione, member of the Alliance des Forces de Progrès (AFP), during his appearance on the show Point de Vue on RTS, reacted to the controversy surrounding the sale of the official house of the president of the National Assembly. Removing any responsibility from its leader, Moustapha Niass, who occupied the perch from 2012 to 2022, he denounced what he describes as “an extremely serious scandal” and demanded a thorough investigation into this matter.
Mbaye Dione wanted to set the record straight in the face of accusations from Abdou Mbow, whom he accuses of having “biased the chronology”. According to the deputy, upon taking office at the head of the National Assembly, Moustapha Niass never occupied this official residence, preferring to stay in his own home.
In 2017, correspondence from the Minister of the Budget and the Director of Built Heritage reportedly proposed returning this house to a Senegalese, under conditions that Mr. Dione describes as “fuzzy”.
However, Moustapha Niass would have categorically refused, informing President Macky Sall of his disagreement with any alienation of this state property.
“Nothing justified such a sale, and President Niass held to this position until his departure in 2022,” he stressed, specifying that at that time, the house was still not not sold, as evidenced by the handover file with his successor, Amadou Mame Diop.
According to Mbaye Dione, the sale of the house was finalized in August 2024, two years after the departure of Moustapha Niass from the presidency of the National Assembly. He denounced an operation carried out under “opaque conditions” and which, according to him, was not validated by the National Assembly.
“It is a scandal that we strongly condemn. We demand that all light be shed on this matter,” insisted the MP, calling for total transparency in the management of public property.
