An accident involving three cars took place this Sunday, January 5, around 2:10 p.m. on departmental road 145, between Corignac and Montendre, in the south of Charente-Maritime.
Firefighters counted four injured. An 86-year-old woman had to be extricated. Seriously injured, she was transported to Jonzac hospital, just like the other victims: an 86-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man who were slightly injured.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the accident was caused by dangerous overtaking, on a straight line, of one of the vehicles. He then allegedly hit the person arriving in front.
Departmental road 145 was closed in both directions of traffic during the intervention.
Nineteen firefighters were mobilized for this accident.
The investigations will have to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy as well as possible responsibilities.
