Protect and enhance the region’s aquatic environments. This is the objective of this project initiated by Symbo and supported by Vinci Autoroutes in as part of its mission to preserve natural spaces. The Etang de l'Or watershed is faced with problems of pollution and degradation of aquatic environments. Thus, for several years Symbo has been carrying out actions to preserve the environment.

« The Etang de l’Or is something that is very important to us. It is rich in biodiversity, it is a magnificent site and I could make my small contribution through the Foundation to preserve it.”

Sébastien Garcia, Project Sponsor and Deputy Manager of the maintenance center at VINCI Autoroutes

A biodiverse hedge with many benefits

The planting of this 850 meter hedge made up of local species such as ash, poplar and hawthorn has several objectives:

  • Reduce pollution due to nutrients and pesticides to improve water quality;
  • Provide a natural habitat and an ecological corridor for local wildlife;
  • Transform the banks of the canal into a pleasant place for walkers.

To protect the young plants, hemp sleeves will be used, as well as biodegradable mulch to maintain humidity and reduce weeds. The Lunel Canal Association and a local school actively participated in this project.
