At the beginning of 2024, following the cessation of cigarette production on the BAT factory site in Boncourt, the Basse-Allaine Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) was asked to move the multinational’s premises . Its hangar in Boncourt had been located on the tobacco company’s production site for 30 years.
The firefighters’ equipment had thus been moved to the premises of the Boncourt road network, the Caland company, and to the Chevrières home. “We had to leave BAT more quickly than expected,” says Ludovic Monteiro, president of the SIS Basse-Allaine supervisory authority, referring to “an emergency move.” This situation being transitory, a more lasting solution had to be found, specifies the man who is also a municipal councilor in Boncourt.
Moving between August and September 2024
The thing was resolved quickly, he notes, and the move took place between August and September of last year. A barn has been specially refurbished to accommodate the SIS, not far from the previous premises, near the buildings on the Route de Déridez, opposite the Gyger farm. Everything has been centralized: main vehicles (pump tanker, hydro vehicle) and equipment for the device carriers.
However, first intervention equipment is still available to firemen in Buix, Courtemaîche, Montignez and Mormont, specifies Ludovic Monteiro, noting that the firefighters also took advantage of sorting. “This solution is currently suitable and will remain pending the cantonal reorganization of firefighters,” he notes. “And the premises can be adapted gradually by the members of the SIS.” Ludovic Monteiro also underlines the commitment of the men of SIS Basse-Allaine and their good collaboration with the municipality for the solution found.
BAT corporate SIS dissolved
As for BAT’s corporate SIS, which was partly integrated into SIS Basse-Allaine, it has been completely dissolved, he tells us. However, as in all companies, security managers are operational on the site, where only warehousing and logistics activities remain.
