the essential
In the heart of historic Comminges, in the village of Saint-André, stands a monumental oak which was labeled “Remarkable Tree of France” in October 2015.
This plant giant, approximately 600 years old, embodies the transition between the Comminges era and the French period, Comminges having been attached to the crown of France in 1540.
At the time of its certification, Jean de Galard, mayor passionate about history, retraced the journey of this exceptional tree: “This oak is the symbol of a period of transition. If this tree is indeed 600 years old, it is Commingeois; if he has less, he is a little more French.”
