As announced a few days ago, this Saturday, January 4, a dry and biting cold fell on the territory, still placed on snow and ice alert. Last night, the mercury dropped sharply, reaching -30°C in several localities. But don't worry, a mild spell is expected this Saturday evening.

Finally a winter like before, it's not too early !“On social media, everyone is commenting on the particularly wintery temperatures this Saturday morning.”It grinds“, even says a frozen Internet user, but happy to see this burst of dry, snowy and sunny winter invade Franche-Comté. “It's good for nature to have a real cycle.

For several weeks now, snow has visited the inhabitants of the region, particularly in the mountain ranges. Biting cold quickly followed, reaching particularly low temperatures at the start of the weekend.

Already on Friday, Météo Franc-Comtoise announced -23.6°C in La Chaux in Haut-, around 10:30 p.m. But it was only later in the night that the mercury continued to fall, reaching particularly low levels, dignified “Siberian temperaturess”.

When we woke up, one town in particular had caught the attention of the meteorological service: in La Brévine, a station near Doubs located on the Swiss border, temperatures dropped to -31.1°C.

The previous lowest value dates back to February 10, 2013 with -31.4°C. The threshold of -30°C at La Brévine (CH) was reached every 3-4 years (on average) in the 20th century; but with climate change the occurrence of such a temperature is now 10-15 years old“, explains Météo Franc-Comtoise.

Elsewhere in the region, the mercury was able to reach -9.7°C at Ballon de Servance (Haute-Saône), -9.5°C at Ballon d'Alsace (Territoire de ) or -33.9°C at Combe Noire (Jura).

However, fans of snow or (very) cool weather may be disappointed because according to the weather service, “the Siberian air when you wake up will not last“.

A violent mild spell is expected this Saturday evening with the arrival of numerous rains reaching the peaks of Franche-Comté.

Notice to residents: beware of this rain as some could be freezing, particularly between the Doubs Valley, Haute-Saône, the Pays de Montbéliard and the Territoire de Belfort. Temperatures will rise again around 10 p.m. and will continue to do so throughout the weekend.

Météo Franc-Comtoise also underlines that “in the mountains between now and Monday January 6, the snowpack should suffer from significant settlement and the grass may even return below 700 meters of altitude.“This sunny Saturday therefore seems to be the last good opportunity to enjoy the snow with family or friends.
