We know the influence of the movements of the moon on the tides. There is a particular event, which occurs several times a year when the moon, the sun and the earth align: the movements of the sea become greater, giving rise to spring tides.

Because they offer a superb playground for walking or fishing on foot at low tide, and superb images of waves hitting the coastline at high tide, spring tides are a phenomenon always appreciated on the coast. And which calls for caution.

2024 was rich

This was particularly the case in 2024, the year rich in high tides and having seen particularly large coefficients. We remember the 117th of March, 118 being the threshold of the famous “tides of the century”. As a reminder, the tide coefficients range from 20 to 120. We start talking about high tides above 90.

In number and intensity, the spring tides of 2025 will be wiser than the previous year.

The month with the greatest number of high tide days will be March. It will also be during this period that we will observe the greatest coefficient of the year: 114 on March 30 and 31.

Apart from this period, 2025 will not see any coefficient exceed 110.

The months of June and July will be devoid of high tides and those of August will not exceed 95. Enough to reassure beach professionals, always on the alert during large coefficients.

Let's keep in mind that the effect of spring tides does not only depend on the coefficients, but that the weather, winds and low pressure, in particular, remain a determining factor on the consequences of a spring tide.

Here are the days of high tides 2,025 in Vendée, marked by coefficients equal to or greater than 90 expected in Les Sables-d'Olonne.
