Who says new year says new things. In Vendée, since January 1, 2025, two new ones have officially appeared. These are Saint-Jean-d'Hermine and Cugand-la-Bernardière.
A regrouping and a merger
These two new municipalities do not come from nowhere. It is in fact a grouping of two municipalities as well as a merger.
Indeed, Saint-Jean-d'Hermine was born from the grouping of Sainte-Hermine and Saint-Jean-de-Beugné. The new town is in the south of the department, a few kilometers from Luçon.
Cugand-la-Bernardière is the result of the merger of Cugand and La Bernardière, two municipalities located in the far north of the department, close to Clisson.
A law that facilitates these procedures
Since 2015, in order to reduce the number of municipalities, a law has been passed to improve the regime of the new municipality.
A financial pact was then launched. It guaranteed the level of state grants to municipalities for three years.
With these two new mergers, these are the 19th and 20th municipalities created since 2016.
