On October 31, and although it is never normally present according to motorists, the Swiss police positioned themselves next to the customs premises before issuing dozens of fines to French border workers.

Nearly 200 checks and dozens of fines in a single day. On October 31, at the border between Switzerland and , French border workers had to take out their wallets after being checked by the Swiss police.

But this situation has aroused the anger of the motorists concerned since, according to them, the police are usually never present. “I have been making this journey every day for five years and this is the first time I have been caught at the border post,” indicates Christian to Le Parisien.

He adds: “I received a fine because I was driving at 33 km/h instead of 20 and they asked me for almost 80 euros.”

An operation which also took place during rush hour, from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., with some denouncing a real “racket”.

An appeal has been filed

Faced with discontent, an association, the Haut-Rhin Border Workers Defense Committee, filed an appeal with the Jura public prosecutor.

For her part, the attorney general of the Swiss canton indicated that she recognized a situation “particular” and she would think “to a reduction of sanctions in the name of illegality”.
