“My feet are cold!” »: the intrepid first swimmers of the year met at Larmor-Plage

“And Happy New Year!” “. Disguised or not, in a wetsuit or swimsuit, the fourth edition of the first swim of the year was, once again, a real success for the Les Étoiles de mer association, in Larmor-Plage. This Wednesday, January 1, 2025, around 11 a.m., around a hundred intrepid people braved the wind and the 11° water temperature for the big and first swim of 2025 on Toulhars beach.

For four years, it has been Nicole – dressed all in pink – who has been in charge of the warm-up. The former gym teacher, aged 78, then started the countdown before the big swim! (Le Télégramme/Jérémy Descours)

A first for Cédric and Isabelle, newly settled in the region. “It’s tradition so we participate. It’s my integration,” laughs the 53-year-old neo-Breton. Originally from , Cédric – in a magnificent “Captain Vodka” costume (always in moderation) – seems to have enjoyed the moment. “On the other hand, my feet are cold,” says the thirty-year-old who will treat himself, with Isabelle, to a second bath.

This is a first in Larmor-Plage for Isabelle and Cédric. The year 2025 is off to a “very good” start. (Le Télégramme/Jérémy Descours)

No question of missing this meeting

Before setting off, Nicole, 78, gave her traditional warm-up facing the sea. “I'm bothered, the music isn't working this morning,” regrets the former gym teacher dressed all in pink. No matter, the septuagenarian, a figure of the association, motivated her troops as necessary, finishing – like every year – with a big gap on the sand! Hats off ma’am! Lulu, Sandrine and Malika swim every Wednesday of the year. “So there was no question of missing this one,” smiles Lulu! The three friends, who came from and , nevertheless found the sea a little cold this morning but the satisfaction is very present.

Invited to drink chocolate or mulled wine, swimmers and spectators were also able to enjoy some homemade cakes. “We don’t make a distinction between those who have been in the water and those who have just watched,” says a volunteer, laughing. As for Nicole, seen after her bath, happiness is total. “It was very good! Very festive as I like! Besides, we’re not even cold.” Definitely, an example for everyone, this Nicole!
