Electric car news

The French automobile market is preparing to welcome a new benchmark in the world of long-range electric vehicles. Leapmotor, a Chinese manufacturer now allied with Stellantis, is preparing to shake up the codes with its C10 SUV in an innovative version equipped with a range extender. This particular hybrid technology makes it possible to reach distances never before seen on the European market.

Innovative hybrid technology to exceed limits

The C10 REEV (Range Extender Electric Vehicle) stands out for its unique approach to electric mobility. This family SUV 4.74 meters incorporates an electric motor 215 horsepower (158 kW) coupled with a battery of 28,4 kWh. The particularity lies in the addition of a heat engine serving exclusively as an electric generator. This configuration makes it possible to achieve a total range of 950 kilometersa figure which places the C10 REEV among the most durable vehicles on the market.

  • Autonomy in 100% electric mode: 145 km (WLTP)
  • Maximum charging power: 65 kW
  • Charging time for 50% battery: 18 minutes

A strategic positioning on the French market

The Chinese manufacturer is adopting an aggressive commercial strategy to attract French motorists. The standard version of the C10, already available on the market, is offered from 36 400 euros. This pricing policy places the vehicle in direct competition with established models such as the Tesla Model Y or the new Renault Scénic E-Tech.

The partnership with Stellantis, a group which brings together emblematic brands such as Peugeot, Citroën and Fiat, offers Leapmotor legitimacy and a solid distribution network on European territory. This strategic alliance could facilitate the adoption of this innovative technology by French consumers.

Regulatory and economic challenges

European regulations classify this type of vehicle in the category of standard electric carswhich raises questions about new customs duties applied to vehicles produced in China. This administrative classification could impact the final price of the C10 REEV on the French market.

Features Specifications
Dimensions 4,74 m de long
Electric power 215 hp (158 kW)
Battery capacity 28,4 kWh
Total autonomy 950 km

A trend that is becoming more widespread

The concept of the range extender is gaining popularity, particularly in Asia. Major manufacturers like Xpeng and Xiaomi are developing their own versions of this technology. Nissan is also experimenting with this approach, but with a different philosophy, limiting pure electric range to a few kilometers.

The official presentation of the C10 REEV at the Brussels Motor Show on January 10, 2025 will mark an important step in the deployment of this technology in Europe. French motorists will then have the opportunity to discover this promising alternative which could redefine their expectations in terms of autonomy and practicality.
