The Hollywood of Africa, Ouarzazate, is going through troubled waters. The left-wing political groups in Ouarzazate, namely: the Federation of the Democratic Left (FGD), the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the Unified Socialist Party (PSU), have raised their voice, on several occasions, against numerous electoral aberrations.
Indeed, the same parties have published several press releases and declarations denouncing the bitter failure of the municipal management of local authorities in Ouarzazate. This failure is due to negative tensions, fragile alignments and the absence of a global development plan aimed at improving the deplorable conditions of the city and proposing concrete solutions to emerge from the crises it is going through.
Citing the measures taken to deal with this abnormality, the FGD, PPS and PSU also organized a public press conference on November 21, during which they presented a comprehensive report on the worrying situation in the province in all areas. Not only that, they presented proposals to overcome the blockage which affects local authorities. These efforts are part of the efforts of the FGD, the PPS and the PSU to save the city from the accumulated delay and work in favor of the general interest of citizens, far from narrow personal interests and speculations.
The left-wing parties in Ouarzazate, gathered last Tuesday, December 31 at the headquarters of the Democratic Confederation of Labor in Ouarzazate, closely followed recent developments, the new forced and opportunistic alignments, characterized by the absence of will to respond positively to the expectations of the population. They noted the irregularities and legal violations which marked the election of the new president of the commune as well as the structuring of the new governing office, which constitutes a legal masquerade and a flagrant attack on democracy.
Thus, the left-wing parties in Ouarzazate consider the denunciation of violations and manipulations of the laws as an integral part of the democratic struggle.
The same parties are contesting as a whole the results of the election of the president and the structuring of the governing office for several reasons, among others: the violation of article 11 of the organic law of local authorities : This article clearly stipulates that the candidacy for the presidency of the council is reserved for the heads of the electoral lists. However, the new elected president occupied the second position on the list of the popular movement party, and no provision of the organic law relating to elections mentions a rule of “ waiver« .
In addition, they denounce the non-compliance with article 17 of organic law 14-113the latter requires that a third of the candidates for the governing office be made up of women. However, the elected list only includes one woman.
The list is not exhaustive, the left parties of Ouarzazate protest against the violation of article 16 of the organic law on prefectures and provinces : the latter stipulates the cases of incompatibility, which have not been respected.
Angered by these violations of laws, the FGD, the PPS and the PSU, decided to initiate legal proceedings to put an end to this charade, by doing justice to the laws governing the electoral process, considered as the one and only way to establish political justice and guaranteeing the rights of residents.
They reaffirm their commitment to continuing common work and mobilization to counter all violations and excesses, whatever their origin, and to defend the concerns and expectations of the population with a view to a better future based on democracy, respect for institutions and laws, serving the general interest of citizens.
Ultimately, the parties express their regret that this experience does not differ from previous ones, as long as its foundations are not based on solid foundations placing the general interest above all other considerations.
