This was announced last September. After several years of hardship, the reorganization of public transport in northern Moselle (urban and interurban) has just reached an important milestone. To mark this milestone, the Smith (Mixed Union of Urban Transport Thionville-Fensch) changed name.
It will now be called SUBJECT (Territories and Mobility Moselle North) from January 1, 2025. This new name aims to “reflect the desire to embody a dynamic, modern image close to users. »

This is not a simple name change intended to make people forget the countless galleys that the SMITU has been able to provide to its users in recent years, but also to reorganize the union in order to put it back on track in the light of environmental necessitiesas much as to deal with the numerous criticisms issued by the Court of Auditors in his report (click here to download it).
Change of perimeter: exits and entrances to municipalities
The decree of the Moselle prefecture introduces a redistribution of the geographical scope of the transport service. TEMO thus becomes the Mobility Organizing Authority (AOM) for a total of 54 municipalities, compared to 35 previously (during the SMITU era).
If the Community of Communes Rives de Moselle and the commune of Gandrange leave thus the union, others enterand join the newly merged Agglomeration Communities of Val de Fensch and Portes de France-Thionville. From now on, all the municipalities of the Community of Communes of Cattenom and Surroundings (CCCE) and the Moselle municipalities of the Community of Communes of Pays Haut Val d'Alzette (CCPHVA).
SMITU was created in 1950. Before this change in scope, it served 187,000 inhabitants (35 municipalities) and announced nearly 5.4 million travelers per yeartransported on 17 core lines and 29 additional lines via 150 vehicles, to which was added an on-demand transport service and a service for people with reduced mobility.
A name change “to restore confidence”
The name change from SMITU to TEMO must support a turning point in the transport union’s strategy. The stated objective is to “better respond to the expectations of residents and strengthen the role of the union in the region. »
President Rémy DICK wishes restore trust :
“This modification of the statutes crowns a year of concerted efforts with the new governance and the teams to breathe new impetus into this union. We have tackled the issues and challenges specific to our territory head on.
This requires a new method, but also a new name. With TEMO, we are opening a new chapter, resolutely turned towards the future, in collaboration with all the stakeholders and inhabitants of our territory. »
Rémy DICK, extract from the press release dated 02/01/2025
