New Year in Casablanca: a night under high tension in the emergency room of the Ibn Rochd University Hospital

Last night, the atmosphere was festive in Casablanca, but at Ibn Rochd hospital, the reality was quite different. It was a night of tension and intense mobilization. Ambulances followed one another, their sirens tearing through the relative calm of the crowded corridors. The medical staff, focused and imperturbable, carried out diagnoses and interventions. On alert, the team remained mobilized throughout a night that seemed like it would never end.

To manage this exceptional influx, organization is the key word. Ismail Belattar, general emergency supervisor, explains: “This is not an ordinary evening for us. Every year we anticipate an influx of patients and prepare accordingly. Doctors, nurses, administrative agents… Everyone is there to welcome and guide patients as best as possible».

The organization is well established at the trauma center level, where “there is fluidity in the admission of patients. The staff takes care of their reception and directs them according to their case. This fluidity is crucial for rapid and effective treatment, particularly in the most serious cases.“, explains Ismail Belattar.

And if the fluidity of admissions facilitates care, it does not take away from the emotional intensity of certain cases, like that of this 65-year-old patient. “When she arrived, she was breathing well but was not conscious. She was in a coma», Relates Professor Mohamed Mouhaoui, head of the emergency department. After extensive examinations, including a CT scan, the diagnosis was made: complications linked to poorly controlled diabetes. Rapid and effective intervention stabilized his condition.

Examinations made faster and more efficient thanks to new equipment. “A real technological leap forward for emergencies this year, the arrival of two operational scanners has considerably reduced the burden on the service», in the words of Omar Kacimi, head of the radiology department. MRI, now accessible 24 hours a day, completes this system, making it possible to establish precise diagnoses and ensure optimal care, whatever the time.
