To mark the new calendar year, US President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his warning to Hamas regarding the hostages.
Asked about this by CNN, Trump declared: “Hamas had an interest in returning the hostages quickly.”
Last month, he already warned: “If the hostages are not released before January 20, 2025, the date on which I will proudly take office as President of the United States, there will be hellish consequences for those responsible for these horrors against humanity.
For the moment, negotiations are once again at an impasse due to Hamas's refusal to communicate the list of hostages who will be released. Hamas is also opposed to the release of some of the hostages demanded by Israel from the first phase of the agreement.
According to information reported in the Egyptian press, 34 hostages would initially be released. But Hamas demands that among these 34 hostages include a significant number of hostage bodies and not living hostages.
Furthermore, the terrorist organization is now returning to its demand to put a definitive end to the war even though it had been more flexible on this subject in recent weeks. Hamas demands guarantees from the first phase of the agreement.
