An apartment in the city center of Bastia was hit by a fire on the night of December 31 to January 1. According to the Haute-Corse departmental fire and rescue operational center, the fire was caused by a smoke bomb.

It was a little after midnight on January 1, 2025, when a fire broke out in an apartment on rue Vattalapesca in the city center of Bastia. The firefighters quickly arrived on site and brought the fire under control; the people present in the building were initially evacuated as a safety measure.
According to initial information from the Haute-Corse fire and rescue department operational center, the fire was caused by “a smoke bomb coming from outside”. No residents of the building were injured in this fire. Three people were rehoused by the town hall.
Apart from this apartment fire, the emergency services of Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud did not report any other significant interventions during this New Year's Eve night.
