In Oujda, taxi operating permit holders, commonly called “grimates”, are required to prove that they are indeed alive.
The city’s police headquarters gave them until the end of January to present official proof, otherwise they risk losing their precious ticket.
This measure, which applies to all taxi operators, whether first or second category (small or large taxi), aims to clarify the situation in a sometimes murky sector. Concretely, operators must require from the owners of “grimates” a certificate of life or, failing that, a declaration signed by them.

The police headquarters has clearly indicated that January 31, 2023 is the deadline. After this deadline, any latecomer will have their license permanently withdrawn. This decision comes in a tense context for the taxi sector, marked by incidents in several cities in the kingdom. We have notably witnessed altercations between taxi drivers and customers, or even with users of transport applications.
