“It’s always ugly Toulouse ! », “It’s incredible, as soon as we pass Carcassonne, it’s sunny”….
In the fog
In recent days, the Toulouse weather has shaken up the newcomers and not only that… The reason? A generally gloomy month of December and Christmas holidays mainly spent in the fog in the Toulouse plains.
The Météo France sunshine map
Monday December 30, 2024, Weather France has released its sunshine map for the year 2024. A map which confirms a duration of sunshine below average for Toulouse.
According to this map, Toulouse would have benefited from between 1,900 and 2,000 hours of sunshine this year.
A not very sunny month of May 2024
The average falls mainly due to a month of May 2024 during which it was sunnier in Brest than in the Pink City. From May 1 to May 26, Toulouse had indeed benefited from 148 hours of sunshine against 159 for Brest. Or its weakest sunshine in the last ten years. Even weaker than in 2018 which had already been described as “rotten” at the time.
The months of September and October 2024 were also significantly less sunny than in recent years.
Precise readings in Toulouse-Blagnac
The readings for the Météo France station in Toulouse-Blagnac are very precise. The total annual duration of sunshine there amounts to 1,971.8 hours.
This is very, very far from the highest total recorded in 2022 of 2,316.5 hours. An extreme year in every way. The average is 2,075.1 hours.
Despite this less sunshine, Toulouse remains one of the sunniest cities in France, but necessarily less than Perpignan and its 2,467.2 hours of sunshine in 2024 (average: 2,488.6 hours) or Montpellier and its 2,590. 3 hours (average 2,705 hours).
