New nightmarish trip for easy Jet customers between Marrakech (Morocco) and Lyon.

A flight between the Moroccan tourist city and Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport this Saturday, December 28, 2024 caused a dreadful return from Christmas vacation for several dozen passengers, stranded on the other side of the Mediterranean.

Cancellation of Marrakech-Lyon flight at the last minute

The flight which was initially scheduled to leave at 8 p.m. Saturday evening was finally canceled after experiencing several delays, according to Progress. A cancellation due to “degraded weather conditions” which left around a hundred passengers bound for Lyon without solutions at the boarding gate of the Moroccan airport.

A situation similar to the passenger mishap last September also with easy Jet but this time in the Lyon-Marrakech direction. They had been “abandoned” by the company.

Left alone at the airport then “expelled” by the police

According to several passengers, the company left the passengers without explanations or assistance. It was around 11 p.m., three after the theoretical departure time of the plane, that the passengers learned by message of the pure and simple cancellation of the flight with no immediate alternative solution.

Some passengers were able to find accommodation with the help of airport staff. Around two o'clock in the morning, “we were forced to leave, the police escorted us out of the airport”, testifies a customer, quoted by our colleagues.

Others, less fortunate, even spent the night outside near the airport. “When the easyJet counters opened, I went to ask for blankets: they told me that it was not possible,” says another passenger who was to board for Lyon.

Their flight rescheduled 24 hours later

French tourists were able to return to Lyon airport this Sunday. A flight took off at 5:30 p.m. from Morocco for Saint-Exupéry where they arrived 2:30 hours later.

Only vouchers of 30 euros would have been offered by easy Jet to passengers stuck in Morocco.
