Whether you are the type to pack up Christmas garlands and baubles from December 26 or are more in favor of extending the festive spirit, here is all the information you need to know when you think the time has come to get rid of your fir tree fatigue. In Paris, many collection points are set up by the City, in order to recycle trees until Monday January 20, 2025.
Collection points in all districts
Last year, 110,470 fir trees were collected, making it possible to produce 2,500 m³ of shredded material. This year, a similar system is being deployed, with 181 collection points distributed throughout all Parisian districts. There are two types: those located in Parisian squares, parks and gardens, open during the opening hours of green spaces (in green on the map); those which remain accessible 24 hours a day in public spaces (in yellow). To find the location closest to you, click on the interactive map below.
A natural weedkiller
The harvested fir trees are crushed. The mulch obtained will be scattered on the plantations in green spaces to act as a natural weedkiller. “It makes it possible to ecologically reduce the appearance of free grass, limit the evaporation of water and promote the development of underground micro-organisms which improve soil life,” explains the City. On the other hand, crushed fir is too acidic to be used in compost.
Please note, all collection points will close after January 20. After this date, you can take out your tree at the same time as the green-lid “household waste” bins in your building, ensuring that it isand cut in half if it measures more than 2.50 m. It will be collected by the household waste collection dump truck.
