This Monday, December 30, 2024Hérault is facing pollution marked by an increase in concentrations of fine particles PM10 and PM2.5. According to Atmo , these high levels are caused by anticyclonic weather conditions and low temperatures, which favor the accumulation of pollutants in the air. The situation is expected to worsen tomorrow, requiring increased attention from the population, particularly vulnerable people.

The deterioration of air quality in Hérault is attributed to several climatic factors. An anticyclone acts like a lid, trapping fine particles close to the ground. These particles, mainly from domestic heating and road activities, accumulate in the absence of wind or precipitation. Result: air increasingly loaded with pollutants.

Increased risks for vulnerable populations

Atmo Occitanie warns of the dangers for vulnerable people. Pregnant women, infants, seniors and people with chronic illnesses, particularly respiratory and cardiac diseases, are particularly exposed. Symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing or palpitations should prompt you to consult a doctor. Health recommendations include avoiding travel near major roads during peak hours and reducing physical exertion, including indoors.

Even if the risks are lower for healthy people, everyone is advised to limit intense physical activities, particularly sports, to reduce the inhalation of fine particles. In the event of respiratory or cardiac discomfort, Atmo Occitanie invites you to consult a pharmacist or doctor. A telephone hotline, Air Santé, is also accessible at 05.61.77.94.44.
