On the occasion of end of year celebrations 2024the Manche prefecture has issued two decrees, valid throughout the department, to “ prevent acts can seriously harm to the safety of people and property ».

Mon prohibits the sale et use fireworks and the other prohibits the sale, transport and use of chemicals, flammable or explosive.

These prohibitions take effect on Monday December 30 from 8 p.m. and for a period of 48 hours until Wednesday 1is January 2025 at 8 p.m.

Fireworks purchases remain dynamic

Avant the entry into force of these ordersit is clear that purchases of firecrackers and other fireworks are multiplying on the shelves with even exasperation on the part of some consumers.

Met in the afternoon of Saturday December 28 at the Foir'Fouille, near Tourlaville (delegated municipality of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin), two young thirty-somethings had their arms full of rockets and did not hide their intention to defy one of the bans.

“We are going to have fireworks for the New Year and the tradition is to celebrate it with noise on the night of December 31 to 1is January and not the following nights, they confide; It is frankly ridiculous and we can't take anymore of all these deprivation of liberty ! »

As for me, and some neighbors will do the same, I will light rockets and firecrackers at midnight on the 31st with my family and friends.

At their side, at around 4 p.m., Annabelle, the department manager fireworks and party favors were in great demand by the customers pour give advice.

“For the young people aged 18 to 30the choice is more towards firecrackers and rockets (from 15 to 50 euros) and for the oldest and parentsAbove all dads with their wires, it is the compacts (from 10 to 600 euros) which are more sought after”.

“Festive intentions”

As a reminder, the sale of fireworks, during authorized periods, is prohibited for minors.

Half an hour later, this time in Gifi and still in the same vein, we found the same atmosphere with a continuous flow of customers determined to set things on fire on Tuesday at midnight.

There was already the same ban last year and that didn't stop people from throwing their firecrackers.
