A drama which began with a dispute during a drunken evening. Five people were indicted this Monday, December 23, three days after the death of a man in his forties, attacked on the public highway in Tinqueux, near (), said François Schneider , the public prosecutor of Reims, to Le Parisien.

Friday evening, a little after 9 p.m., the firefighters intervened “for a fight”. At the scene, they discovered a man lying on the ground with a bleeding wound on his head. The victim, “in cardio-respiratory arrest”, was transported to Reims hospital, where he died around 11 p.m.

Hits on the ground

According to the first elements of the investigation, the man was attacked “by several individuals following a dispute”, which occurred during a drunken evening with friends, explained the public prosecutor. During this evening, an argument broke out over the behavior of a guest towards a young woman.

After leaving the scene, the latter returned with several people, before hitting the victim, a man in his forties, who fell to the ground. The blows continued to rain while the latter was on the ground. Living in the same neighborhood, this forty-year-old, who died on the spot, was presented as “nice” by his neighbors, shocked by the tragedy.

Two women indicted for “voluntary failure to prevent a crime or misdemeanor”

Five people, aged 23 to 33, were arrested and taken into custody the next day, Saturday December 21. After being brought before an investigating judge, this Monday, three people were indicted for “violence resulting in death without intention to cause it” and “aggravated intentional violence”, specified François Schneider.

Two of them were released under judicial supervision, the last one was placed in pre-trial detention. The prosecution, which had requested pre-trial detention, appealed for one of the people placed under judicial supervision, he said.

During their hearings, the alleged perpetrators of the beatings did not dispute the violence, but they “contradicted each other on its seriousness,” said the prosecutor. The two young women, who accompanied them, were also referred. They were indicted for “voluntary failure to prevent a crime or misdemeanor” and placed under judicial supervision.
