It is 11 a.m. in Joué-lès-Tours this Monday, December 23 and despite the winter holidays which are beginning, the town hall agents and some residents have made the trip to support Mayotte. “We made the trip because our son who is a police officer will be leaving for Mayotte in January”tells a couple of Mona Lisas. Their son had already told them how Mayotte needed help, having gone there last year. They came to the front of the town hall to pray with the rest of the city.
More than a week after Cyclone Chido which ravaged the entire island of Mayotte, the time for reflection has arrived. As in Joué-lès-Tours, at the call of the President of the Republic, a minute of silence was held this Monday, December 23 at 11 a.m. throughout France. In the poorest department in France, 70% of homes were destroyed. Indre-et-Loire is mobilizing to help the population of the overseas territory.
“I responded to the call from the resident of the Republic. And he is right, we must give all our support to the population of Mayotte who are facing this tragedy and the pain”explains Frédéric Augis, the mayor of the city.
