With his new album “Alain”, Marseille rapper Kemmler will be at Espace Julien this evening. / PHOTO SERGE MERCIER

Kemmler, the fervor of Marseille hip-hop at Espace Julien

Kemmler will perform this Thursday, December 19 in the Cours Julien room, where pieces fromAlainhis album released in May. For several months, the artist has been embarking on his “Alainfini” tour, which follows the release of his fourth album, Alain. A record dedicated to the singer's father and his fight against cancer, notably recounted in the eponymous single. Throughout the thirteen tracks that make up this project, Kemmler pushes introspection a little further, he who sang “I only have my father as my eternal idol” in the song Autopsie, in 2022.

Moments of life, but also of personal rebirth. While transforming his pain into poetry, Kemmler's world opens with each song in his new album. If his father's illness initially cut off the desire to make music, the rapper immersed himself in his emotions, while being more than ever in support of those close to him, to better describe them. His talent for words, the power of which has regularly been compared to those of Orelsan, captivated his audience, who were dithyrambic at the moment of discovering Alain. Album for which Kemmler once again played on one of his strengths: surrounding himself with a solid team and creating effective collaborations, with the artists Loud and Naë.

Dates and times: Thursday December 19 at 8 p.m.

“The Funambulist” or the fall of the angel

Philippe Torreton shares the stage with a wire roper and a musician to give flesh to Jean Genet's text. A declaration of love to the acrobat and to art, to be discovered at La Friche/Gymnase hors les Murs. Dedicated to his lover, the acrobat Abdallah Bentaga, The tightrope walker by Jean Genet is a long poem which exalts the artist “who risks his life to dazzle us“and the circus,”one of the last dangerous games with bullfighting and poetry“. To embody him on stage, Philippe Torreton takes on the role of the writer Jean Genet alongside the fildeférist Julien Posada, object of desire and fantasies, and the musician Boris Boublil. The latter establishes a subtle link between his two characters and a dramaturgy, made of angry riffs on the guitar to express the helplessness and revolt of the injured Abdallah, or conversely of Arabic and playful piano notes when he triumph.

At the opening of the piece, Philippe Torreton picks up a handful of sawdust from the ground which he throws into the air and which transforms into gold flakes. His gesture symbolizes the magic of the circus and art: sublimating reality, rising to beauty, such is Genet's philosophy. The play is full of staging ideas. The setting, an old circus where the ghosts of Fellini or Wim Wenders' acrobat hover, is superb. Death lurks there: the bed looks like a stretcher, the Abdallah/Julien Posada costume hanging on the wall is slashed with stab wounds like in a fairground act. However, Philippe Torreton chose to play a character the opposite of himself by playing Genet, the tormented and perverse writer with his lover. Without merit, Julien Posada is not the celestial, sparkling being described by Genet either. It's hard to believe in this hot couple. Despite these reservations, we must go to the Friche to listen to the dark and disturbing poetry of the Funambule, this flower of evil which speaks to us so much of our humanity.

Dates and times: from Thursday December 19 to Saturday December 21 at 8 p.m.

Lieu : in La Friche
