Some 88 people have been named to the Order of Canada by Governor General Mary Simon, including Quebecers Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Guy Saint-Jacques, Chloé Sainte-Marie and Fabienne Colas, as well as British-Columbian actor Ryan Reynolds.
The football player and doctor Laurent Duvernay-Tardif joins the Order in particular for having put his career on hold in order to lend a hand in a CHSLD during the pandemic and for having used art and sport with the aim of promoting academic success.
Former Canadian ambassador to Beijing, Guy Saint-Jacques, was honored for his achievements as a public servant and negotiator, particularly with regard to climate change.
Montreal multidisciplinary artist Chloé Sainte-Marie is honored, among other things, for her influence in the Quebec cultural community and for having founded the Maisons Gilles-Carle.
For her part, Fabienne Colas, a leading figure in cultural diversity in the country, was appointed by the Governor General for having promoted thousands of Afro-descendant artists on a North American scale, notably through her foundation. .
Quebecer Pierre Boivin, who founded the Quebec Institute of Artificial Intelligence Mila, was promoted to the rank of Companion (CC), the highest badge of the Order.
McGill University professor Nada Jabado, Cirque du Soleil costume designer Dominique Alice Lemieux, Canadian Journal of Cardiology editor-in-chief Stanley Nattel and University of Montreal professor Christiane Rousseau were also named as of Officers.
British Columbian actor Ryan Reynolds and General Walter John Natynczyk are also among those appointed to the Order.
“Members of the Order of Canada contribute to building a better future,” said Governor General Mary Simon in a press release. All in their own way, they expand the field of possibilities and encourage others to continue to push the limits.”
The Order of Canada is one of the highest honors in the country.
It aims to honor people from all sectors of society who have made lasting contributions to Canada.
