Sarr regrets “not having broken through at OL”

Mamadou Sarr, former OL defender, signed with (@RCSA)

Having left for Strasbourg in the off-season, Mamadou Sarr became a starter in Ligue 1 in Alsace. An expected trajectory initially in his training club, OL.

In August 2024, OL, still looking for cash, agreed to part ways with one of its young players in the making, a boy who was promised a good career in his training club. Mamadou Sarr19 years old and on the shelves of several Ligue 1 teams, left the Rhône, where he had lived since 2018, for Strasbourg.

Arriving in U13 at Olympique Lyonnais, he left six years later, after playing three ends of a match with the professionals. At mid-season, the RCSA should not regret having paid ten million euros to recruit the French U20 international. He has indeed become a full-fledged starter in the elite. He played ten matches in all competitions, all in the starting 11. And without a few muscle glitches, this total would certainly have been much higher.

His trainer, Liam Rosestrusts him, to the point of putting players on the bench who have been acquired for good compensation. He will of course have to confirm this in the second part of the exercise, but Sarr, a fervent admirer of the Premier League, could continue to be in the sights of English teams. Especially since with BlueCo, owner of Racing and Chelsea, the path seems clear.

In the meantime, he flourished in Alsace to launch his career. If he regrets not having achieved it at OL, he has come to terms with the idea. “Not having made it in was a disappointment, but I have turned the page. My choice may have been surprising, but it is the best project for me, he confirmed in the columns of The Team. I immediately joined when it was presented to me.“A trajectory which could give remorse to the Rhone leaders, even if the context at the time could explain this decision.
