Increased controls on fast food businesses, squats, places where weapons are sold, deportations of foreigners… State services are deploying a 9-axis plan to secure sensitive neighborhoods.

Prézégat, la Bouletterie, La Trébale, Méan-Penhoët… The list of neighborhoods in Saint-Nazaire plagued by trafficking, brawls, gunshots and settling of scores continues to grow from week to week. Faced with this alarming observation, the prefect of and prefect of Loire-Atlantique, Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze, is today taking new measures. The security plan put in place in the Trébale district last July, and already extended to Prézégat in November, is now being extended to other sensitive areas of the commune.

10 operations since November

On December 13, the prefect chaired a working meeting with the police and the mayor of Saint-Nazaire David Samzun. First of all, to take stock of the 10 operations carried out since the beginning of November. 100 departmental personnel were mobilized, often supported by Mobile Force Units, and made it possible to control 316 people et 102 vehicles. “Around ten people were arrested, including 8 illegal foreigners, and 6 criminal fixed fines were issued” specifies the Prefecture. This meeting of December 13 was also useful for implementing new actions in the weeks to come.

A plan broken down into 9 axes

On December 16, 2024, Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze presented his reinforced action plan, during a new meeting at the sub-prefecture of Saint-Nazaire, in the presence of Eric de Wispelaere sub-prefect of Saint-Nazaire, David Samzun, mayor of Saint-Nazaire, Florence Sroda-Bru, public prosecutor and Philippe Jos, interdepartmental director of the Police National of Loire-Atlantique. A plan in 9 main points: strengthening of the police presence in sensitive neighborhoods, cleaning and inspection of all common areas and vacant housing in conjunction with social landlords “in order to secure the squatted apartments and recover any drugs and weapons that may be hidden there”identification and census of squats, deportation of foreigners in an irregular situation, reflection on the strengthening of video surveillance, control of places of sale of arms and ammunition, multiplication of controls particularly in fast food establishments, identification of individuals “disturbing public order and who benefit from social assistance, in particular social housing”and finally the implementation of controls on peripheral traffic routes, particularly at the entrance to neighborhoods and at Saint-Nazaire station.

Full mobilization of state services

A new security operation took place this Tuesday, December 17. The sub-prefect of Saint-Nazaire was present alongside the police to monitor coordinated checks in businesses. He will be responsible for ensuring the management and monitoring of this action plan through weekly meetings involving the stakeholders concerned. “You can count on the mobilization and full determination of state services and law enforcement to fight against trafficking and dismantle the networks” insists Fabrice Rigoulet-Roze, prefect of Pays de la Loire, prefect of Loire-Atlantique.
