Many months (even years) after Toulouse and Montpellier, the city of Nimes (Gard) has joined the category of cities with a Low Emission Zone (ZFE). It was set up the 1^is January 2025for a period of 5 years.

The entire city center of the main town of Gard is affected. The ancient city is therefore closed to the most polluting vehicles.

Not the highways, nor the national ones, nor certain departmental ones…

However, certain entire areas located a stone's throw from the capital of Gard are not affected. Road axes such as the A9 and A54 motorways, the national 106 and 113 crossing the city from one side to the other and the various service axes of the industrial zones of Grézan on the departmental 999 and Saint-Césaire on the departmental 40 and 613 can be used by all vehicles.

So-called general interest vehicles (firefighters, prisoner transfers, customs, gendarmerie, etc.) and public transport automatically benefit from an official exemption. They will thus have access without difficulty or constraint to the entire territory of Nîmes. Moreover, “small rider” exemptions are possible (for vehicles not exceeding 8,000 km/year).

“Moderation”

Finally, “careful not to penalize the people of Nîmes and to preserve the local economic fabric, the City has chosen moderation,” explains the Nîmes town hall. An evaluation after three years in 2028 will make it possible to verify the evolution of air quality in Nîmes and the benefit of the ZFE.

In summary, if your vehicle has been registered for the first time after 1996, you can request the Crit'Air sticker to travel or park within the ZFE-m perimeter of the City of Nîmes. If it was registered for the first time after before 1996, you can request a “small rider” exemption and certain routes remain accessible to you.
