Until April 18, 2025, the Department is offering a new exhibition at the Departmental Archives called “Anjou en fête”. From the French Revolution until the 2000s, the exhibition highlights festivals in Maine-et-Loire, whether official, religious, professional, private, local or sporting.

The audiovisual archives kept at the Departmental Archives of Maine-et-Loire are at the heart of the exhibition. Among them, a selection of films show Angevins sharing festive moments, in public and private spaces. The selected archive films were made by Angevins, between 1938 and 1997, and partly illustrate the types of festivities that existed in the 20th century in Maine-et-Loire. Among the fourteen films offered, the public will be able to discover in particular the great municipal festival preceding the agricultural show in Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne (1954), the inauguration party of the ring road in (1981), the shoe festival at May-sur-Èvre (1938) or the first edition of the bicycle festival in Anjou (1997).

Visitors will also be able to test their knowledge of local festivals through a short quiz.
