It has become a tradition in this small rural village in Seine-et-Marne, located astride the departmental road which links La Ferté-Gaucher to Montmirail.
At Montolivet, this Sunday 1is Decembera friendly crowd of residents gathered in the green space in front of the town hall and the village school.
A good dozen adults have conceived gift packages when others rummaged through boxes filled with garlands and balls of all colors to decorate the tree in front of the town hall. “We are mobilizing to decorate the village as the end of year holidays arrive. It’s to please the children,” confides Erwan, a Christmas elf hat firmly placed on his head.
For their part, Sabine, Maëva and Bérénice, responsible for wrapping fake giftshave made a beautiful stack of multi-colored boxes. “The village has to be beautiful,” they confide, while folding and cutting the paper. Their goal? Give the impression that Santa Claus, who stands in front of the table where all these little people work, brought them.
While the adults worked, the children twirled and had fun. Some were struggling to find something to decorate the tree.
Innovate every year
It’s already “ the 3e or 4e year that we decorate our village as Christmas and New Year approach,” they say in unison. Some decorations are those from previous years, even if new creations are added each year. The objective is to show those who pass through the village that it innovates every year.
Once the decorations were put up, everyone gathered in the party room for a snack which made them forget the cold weather of the day.
