Visakhapatnam: A low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression within the next 48 hours. The system is moving from Sri Lanka toward Tamil Nadu, bringing rainfall to coastal regions and the Rayalaseema area starting on Thursday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has been tracking the system, with the upper air cyclonic circulation extending to mid-tropospheric levels, indicating a potentially complex weather pattern.

Residents in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam should prepare for intermittent weather conditions. From December 11-12, scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected in districts including Parvathipuram Manyam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and others.

The weather is forecasted to dry out between December 13-15, providing a brief respite. However, rainfall is predicted to resume in isolated areas from December 16-17. South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions are expected to face more intense weather conditions. Thunderstorms with lightning are forecasted for isolated locations, particularly in districts like SPSR Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati.

Weather alerts have been issued for various districts in the region. SPSR Nellore, Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya are expected to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms from December 11-12, with potentially significant precipitation and severe weather conditions. Meanwhile, Sri Sathya Sai, Anantapuramu, Nandyal, and YSR Districts are warned about isolated thunderstorms with lightning, specifically anticipated on December 12.
