On the night of November 27 to 28, 2024, a fire, probably of malicious origin, ravaged the refrigerated vehicle fleet of the Gard Food Bank. The disaster, which occurred around 12:30 a.m., completely destroyed the six vehicles essential to the association's logistics activity. The damage is estimated at around €600,000.
This event represents a hard blow for the Gard Food Bank, which depends on these vehicles to collect and distribute food to the department's 91 partner associations. They work daily to help the most deprived people.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the association's teams were quick to react. As of this Thursday morning, they are organizing themselves to find temporary solutions and maintain the chain of solidarity.
An urgent need for logistical support
Faced with this disaster, the Gard Food Bank is launching an appeal for solidarity. The objective is clear: find alternative logistical means to continue to ensure the collection and distribution of foodstuffs. Any material assistance, whether refrigerated vehicles or financial support to acquire new ones, would be valuable.
This fire occurs in a context where food insecurity affects a growing number of people. Food Bank services, essential for many families and individuals, cannot be interrupted.
A call for vigilance and mobilization
The supposed malicious origin of the fire worries the association's officials, who hope that the investigations will clarify the circumstances of this tragedy. In the meantime, they call on communities, businesses and citizens to mobilize to overcome this ordeal.
The Gard Food Bank thanks in advance all those who will come forward to help it continue its mission. For any help or contribution, contact the Gard Food Bank directly.
The prefect of Gard provided his support to the volunteers of the Banque Alimentaire du Gard – BA30 after the fire last night of several vehicles of the association in Nîmes.
