While his lawyer pleaded for acquittal, a 42-year-old man was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment in Indre. He was convicted of raping a young woman, now aged 20.
A 42-year-old man was sentenced to ten years in prison for rape by the Indre Criminal Court on Tuesday, November 26. He was already registered in the register of perpetrators of sexual offenses following a first conviction around twenty years ago, reports The New Republic.
He allegedly forced the victim, now aged 20, into sexual intercourse in June 2023. The defendant assured that this relationship was consensual, while apologizing to the young woman during the hearing. His lawyer pleaded for acquittal, in vain.
Contradictions in his statements
But for the victim's lawyer, quoted by the local daily, the forty-year-old “got entangled in his contradictions, until the end”. The convicted man could appeal the court's decision and be retried by an appeal court.
