On the evening of this Saturday, November 30, 2024, the 2024 edition of the Telethon will end. But the town of Firminy (Loire) will try to take on a rather crazy challenge during the charity event: the largest melee in the world, where several thousand people are expected.
In order to finance research into genetic neuromuscular diseases, the Telethon launches a donation campaign each year. The 2024 edition will be held on November 29 and 30. For the occasion, the town of Firminy located near Saint-Étienne will attempt to break a world record: that of the largest melee in the world, reports West France.

The current record is held by the Americans where 2,939 people participated. But this weekend, the Loire commune, which is one of the four ambassador cities with Quimper (Finistère), Avesnes-sur-Helpe (North) and Bonifacio (South Corsica) for the 38th edition of the Telethon, will try to overturn it.
The event should take place on the lawn of the Le Corbusier stadium and should bring together more than 3,600 participants, 3,637 to be exact, notes the daily.
It is important to note the presence of a distinguished sponsor: Fabien Pelous, former captain of Stade Toulousain but also of the XV of France.
My commitment is above all an extension of everything I have experienced in rugby.
“France is a nation of challenges. The objective, obviously, is to mobilize the rugby community around this event to do something, beyond the record, that has meaning on this day of Telethon”says the fifty-year-old.
“My commitment is above all an extension of what I experienced in rugby, which is a sport where we share things a lot. Whatever our differences on the field, we are a whole with very strong relationships. So in relation to that, I find that heritage and the common good are things that bring together the greatest number of people, and that is why I invest a lot in these initiatives.”continues the former French international.
Even if you live hundreds of kilometers from the small Loire town, it will still be possible to follow the record attempt. The event will be broadcast on France 2 this Saturday at midday, around 12:30 p.m. During the previous year, nearly 93 million euros had been collected (92,905,533 euros exactly).
