Carl Moissonnier retiring, and for lack of a buyer, the bakery “du haut” of Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier closed this Sunday, June 30 at noon. One last day and a lot of emotion, of course.
Place Virollet which, six days a week smelled of warm bread, will now have to do without these gourmet scents.
This Sunday, June 30, Carl Moissonnier, the baker upstairs, as the Saint-Pierrois liked to say, baked his last batch of bread. For him, the time for retirement has come and, with it, the disappearance of the business.
A baker since the age of 14, he has finished his career while his wife Nadine will continue to work elsewhere. Established since January 2, 1997, the Moissonniers would like to thank their loyal customers.
Three bakers in 1997… Only one now
“When we arrived in Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier, there were three of us bakers. From July 1, there will only be one,” says Nadine with a quavering voice. “After more than twenty-seven years of presence in the town, we have forged strong links with some of our customers,” continues Carl. “You don’t leave a profession or your clients without emotion. The last batch was marked by a certain emotion.”

For their part, many customers already regret the departure of the baker couple. Renée, for her part, will be in difficulty, since she will have to travel further to stock up on breads and pastries. Another will miss Carl’s excellent black forests or his generously sized pastries.
“The economic climate is not the best for selling, so we have not found a buyer. We have sold our machines, and seeing them go will be heartbreaking again.” The couple will soon settle in Cher, in Sancoins, near their daughter, for a new life.
